FAQ
Getting started
Fill out the form at the bottom of this page with your name and email. Your library goes live the moment you click "Create my library," and we send your shareable link straight to your inbox. No password, no app download required.
Once your library is set up you will have a unique link like getfirstchapterco.com/your-family. Copy it and send it to anyone you want: grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends. They can view your library instantly without creating an account.
Yes. On our Full Story plan you can invite other trusted adults as co-managers from your library settings: a partner, a grandparent, anyone who shares the project. Co-managers have full access, including the ability to edit everything and invite others, so only add people you trust completely.
Books
In Admin mode, click the gold "Add a book" button and search by title, author, or ISBN. Select the book from the results and choose whether it goes in your library or wish list. On your phone, you can scan the barcode on the back of the book instead of typing. Either way, it only takes a few seconds.
No cover image? No problem. We show a clean placeholder so your library still looks great, and the book appears normally in your list. If you would like to add a cover yourself, you can paste an image address in edit mode. Check out our How-To Guides for a step by step.
Yes. While in Admin mode, click any book to open its details, then use the edit option to update the title, author, cover, age range, or notes, move it between shelves, or remove it entirely.
Age filters only apply to books that have an age range set. To tag a book, open it in Admin mode, choose Edit, and select an age range. Books without a tag will always appear when "All" is selected.
Gifts and memories
The gift log, part of our Full Story plan, is a record of every book your child has been given: who gave it, for what occasion, and any note from the giver. When someone logs a gift it goes into a pending queue first, so you can confirm the book has actually arrived and been received before it joins your library shelf.
Share your library link before any birthday or holiday. Gift givers can see exactly what is on the wish list and what is already owned, so nothing gets duplicated. If a book is already in the library, we flag it with a friendly heads-up.
Yes. On Full Story libraries, anyone with your link can use the "Recommend a Book" tab to suggest a title, no account needed. It lands in your queue to approve or dismiss, so you stay in control of what goes on your wish list.
Books collect small circular badges as your family uses them: read by a child, marked as a favorite, given as a gift, or started as a recommendation. Hover over a badge (or tap it on your phone) to see the story behind it, like who gave the book and for what occasion. Badges are part of Full Story memory tracking, and a well-loved book wears its whole history.
Yes. Full Story families can log "off-library reads" from the Stats tab: books borrowed from the library, read at Grandma's house, or enjoyed anywhere else. They count toward each child's reading total, which is perfect if you are working toward a goal like 1000 Books Before Kindergarten.
The reading count shown to visitors at the top of your family page only counts books from your own library, since that is the shelf visitors can see. Your Stats tab, visible just to managers, tells the fuller story: it also includes off-library reads like borrowed books and story time at Grandma's. So the Stats tab number will often be higher, and that is by design.
Account
Your library is accessible to anyone who has the link, but it is not indexed or searchable. Only people you share the URL with can find it. Think of it like a private Google Doc with a shareable link.
Just enter your email on the sign-in page and we will send you a fresh magic link. No password to remember, ever.
Chapter One, our starter plan, is free: your family's library and wish list on one shareable page. Full Story adds gifting, recommendations, memory tracking, family members, and our full theme collection, and is currently available by early access invitation. We will share Full Story pricing when it opens to everyone.
